How to Get the Dark Ringleader Set Early in Crimson Desert
A step-by-step location guide for finding the complete Dark Ringleader armor set hidden behind the waterfalls of the Hernand region.
Overview
What this guide is for
Securing a reliable defensive advantage in the opening hours of Crimson Desert can drastically shift your momentum, making it one of the most critical beginner tips to follow. The Dark Ringleader Set is widely considered one of the best early armor sets available, providing a major early-game defensive boost while visually aligning Macduff with the lore of the dangerous "Bleed Bandits." Fortunately, players don't need to advance deep into the main story to acquire it. The complete three-piece armor set is located entirely within the starting Hernand region. Acquiring the set involves solving an overarching environmental puzzle: discovering hidden chambers located behind cascading waterfalls across three distinct cave systems. This guide breaks down exactly where to find each piece and the prerequisite abilities you'll need to reach them.
Preparation: Unlocking the Stab Ability
Before setting out to hunt down the Dark Ringleader pieces, there is a hard prerequisite you must meet. One of the hidden chambers is inaccessible through standard movement.
You must unlock and equip the 'stab ability' from your combat abilities list before attempting to collect the Gloves. This mechanic allows Macduff to lunge forward with enough force to penetrate heavy environmental hazards, such as the dense waterfall blocking the Cloud Mist Cave's hidden room.
The Dark Ringleader's Gloves (Cloud Mist Cave)
The first piece of the set, the Dark Ringleader's Gloves, is tucked away inside the Cloud Mist Cave. Navigate to the cave system in Hernand and proceed inside until you encounter a thick, blocking waterfall.
This is where your preparation pays off. Standard walking or dodging will not let you pass through the rushing water. Instead, line up your character, gauge the spacing, and activate your stab ability. The lunge will carry Macduff directly through the water barrier and into the hidden chamber containing the Gloves chest.
- Location: Cloud Mist Cave, Hernand.
- Obstacle: Dense waterfall blocking a tunnel.
- Solution: Use the stab ability to lunge through the water.
The Dark Ringleader's Cloth Helm (Shadowheart Grotto)
Next, head to the Shadowheart Grotto to locate the Dark Ringleader's Cloth Helm. This cave system is heavily vertical, requiring players to carefully navigate downward.
Make your way to the very bottom of the grotto. Once you reach the lowest floor, look for another cascading waterfall against the cavern wall. Unlike the Cloud Mist Cave, you can walk directly through this waterfall to reveal the concealed chamber housing the Helm.
- Location: Shadowheart Grotto, Hernand.
- Obstacle: Located at the bottom of the cavern behind a standard waterfall.
- Solution: Walk directly through the water curtain.
The Dark Ringleader's Cloth Armor (Blade Cavern)
The final and most crucial piece of the set—the chest piece—is located in the Blade Cavern. Following the thematic environmental puzzle of the previous pieces, this armor is also guarded by water.
Proceed through the Blade Cavern until you spot the waterfall deep within the area. Step through the rushing water to find the final chest. Equipping all three pieces will grant you the full defensive benefits and complete the Bleed Bandits aesthetic. For quick geographical confirmation of the waterfall entrances, refer to the short visual guide below.
- Location: Blade Cavern, Hernand.
- Obstacle: Waterfall concealing the final chest.
- Solution: Pass through the waterfall to claim the chest piece.
